  • "Are We There Yet?"
A Series of Portraits for the All New Mercedes GL Section of mbusa.com
  • Q: How do you photograph a typical Mercedes Benz GL ‘family’ in a style that complements the lighting used for the cars––without distracting from the individual expressions?

Q: By looking back to hollywood portrait photography for classic lighting, and by casting actors who could convey their 'character' with just subtle facial expressions.

Razorfish in New York commissioned James Bareham to shoot a series of portraits of the typical Mercedes Benz GL family to be used on the mbusa.com for the all new GL.

The concept was based around the tagline “Are We There Yet’ and comprised of a series of portraits of the GL ‘family’; each of which was used in animated showcases based around the feature sets of ‘comfort’, ‘innovation’, ‘guidance’, ‘entertainment’, ‘safety’ and ‘flexibility’.

After a fairly exhaustive casting, we found our ideal family––and a dog. The full set of portraits were shot by James Bareham at Go Studios stunning penthouse daylight studio (which rather ironically was blacked out). The shoot was produced by Stuart Hart and our newly re-launched integrated production company – TNC Productions and the Creative Services Manager at Razorfish is Yael Bloom.
