Description
Location landscape shoot on the Isle of Harris, for communications & ISP company IDNet.

  • I was recently commissioned to shoot a series of landscapes for communications & ISP company IDNet.

Aspirational, tranquil and a solid visual sense of connection — three notions that formed the basis of the photographic brief. Seascapes were discussed and agreed upon, with expanses of sky, sea and sand playing the main part, punctuated with solid formations of rock.

With its quiet expanse of stunning white sand beaches and unique geology, the Isle of Harris immediately sprang to mind. And so a couple of weeks later we were heading North to Ullapool to catch the CalMac ferry to Stornoway, and then South to Tarbert, which would be our base for the week.

Three days were spent working on the West coast of the Southern part of the Isle, waiting for the right combination of light, tide and sea state, followed by another two days driving the wonderful Golden Road in search of a suitably calm and mirror-like inland loch.

  • Firstly some 'Behind the scenes' pictures..
  • More and more I’m being asked about the cameras that I work with, so here’s a BTS shot of the ALPA 12 STC with Schneider/ALPA Apo-Switar 5.6/36 mm XL and PhaseOne IQ180 back.
  • Working on the beach at Bagh-Steinigidh. Image © Cameron Davidson 2012.
  • The same beach 24 hours later. A typically Hebridean shift in the weather and sea state.
  • Here are the final images..
  • And here's how they appear on the IDNet web site..
